  • Paint Technology Course:

The LASCT has sponsored a Paint Technology Course since 1947. The course is comprised of three quarters of ten lectures each. The second and third quarters of the LASCT Paint Technology class have been combined with the Cal Poly Pomona second and third quarter "Fundamentals of Coatings Formulation Science" classes, which provide the LASCT students the opportunity to take part in a legitimate laboratory experience.

The fall quarter, which begins in Septmeber, focuses on latex architectural formulation and raw materials. The winter quarter, beginning in January, focuses on oil base solventborne architectural coatings and raw materials. The spring quarter, beginning the end of March, focuses on corrosion and corrosion control, mechanical properties of paint films, and introduction to resin technology. Commonly employed industrial finishes and high performance maintenance finishes are discussed.

An LASCT certificate in paint technology will be given to a person who completes the LASCT first quarter and the Cal Poly Pomona second and third quarter classes.  If the student also completes the Cal Poly Pomona first quarter, he or she will also receive a certificate in paint formulation from Cal Poly Pomona Chemistry Department.

For more information on the LASCT Paint Technology course, you may contact Matt Wood at (909) 396-7521 or w.matt.wood@att.net.

Space is limited. There is a maximum of 25 students for this class. Get your reservations in early!

The Winter quarter Cal Poly Pomona Paint and Coatings Institute paint formulation class began January 8, 2008. It meets on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 308 of Building 8 on the Cal Poly Pomona campus. The class consists of a lecture and lab. The cost is $500.00 per quarter. The Winter quarter topic is Higher Performance Coatings. For more information, please call V.C. Bud Jenkins at (909) 260-4263 or visit www.coatingsscientist.com.

The LASCT has for many years awarded scholarships to encourage the academic training of people with the expressed hope that the recipients seriously consider working in the Southern California Coatings Industry.

If you, one of your children, a relative, or someone you know will be attending college next year, then take advantage of this opportunity. Our Society will consider anyone residing within the boundaries of the LASCT who is pursuing a course of study leading to an AA, BA, BS, MS or Ph.D. in coatings technology, physical science, engineering or mathematics. Other areas related to the coatings industry will also be considered. See pages 72-76 of the 2007-2008 LASCT Yearbook and Directory for more information.
